A unique feature of the EV200 is its coil economizer developed for applications where coil efficiency is important,” said Pat McPherson, Kilovac Product Manager. “It’s basically a DC-DC power supply that provides higher current to the coil for pull in, then backs the current off to about 130 ma or less to keep the EV200 relay energized. The economizer limits the back electromotive force (emf) to 1 Volt and allows the EV200 relay to operate over a large coil voltage range – one model is 9 to 36 Vdc.”At 50° C with 1/0 cables, the EV200 carries 250 A continuously, 400 A for 100 seconds, and 600 A for 10 seconds. In battery transfer applications where engine starting is commonplace, the EV200 can carry 2,000 A inrush for 250 ms and 500 A for 10 seconds while the engine is cranking. The EV200 relay is rated to do this 10 times without overheating. For feedback in critical applications where contact position indication is needed, an optional 2 A @ 30 Vdc rated auxillary contact is available.
