Eric Raymond's career in flying began with hang gliding. He
earned the title of World aerobatic champion in 1983 and 1984
consecutively. He flew Gunther Rochelt's human powered Musculair
2 and with Rochelt's help he formulated the concept for the
Sunseeker. The Sunseeker breaks all previous records for solar
powered aircraft.
Airships Powered
by the Sun
To develop long distance
electric powered aircraft, Solar Flight has considered all types
of flying machines. History shows us that airships were the first
type of aircraft capable of safely flying long distances with
limited power plants. Therefore, we have chosen a lighter than
air configuration for a very long range aircraft.
Unlike blimps which rely on internal pressure
to maintain their shape, our design is a rigid airship, of the
Zeppelin class. With this machine Solar Flight plans to circumnavigate
the globe using only solar energy.
The Sunship is designed to be as small as possible,
but large enough to cross the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It
is designed to carry 3 people at lower altitudes, 2 people to
medium altitudes, and one person at high altitudes. The Sunship
should be able to break the current altitude record for airships
of 24,000 ft.

Jean-Marie Massaud's "Manned Cloud" LTA (lighter-than-air)
hybrid airship could represent the future of air travel.
Lifted by three giant helium-filled bladders,
the 210 meters long aircraft is 82 meters wide and 52 meters
high. With a volume of 520,000 cubic meters, it can carry 40
passengers and 15 crew members on two decks that include 20
state rooms, a restaurant, lounge, library, fitness center and
spa, bar and sun deck terrace at top of the craft.
