We need a picture of the capable electric
vehicle (The vehicle must go 100 miles on a charge within 10 hours)
with the owner and or driver. include names of persons involved
and these statistics:
Location: Course start, midway and return to finish at the start
with description of topography and weather. Vehicle: Year, make
and model with description of the motor, controller and batteries.
Average speed, fastest speed.
In 1985 Bill Kuehl drove his "73" Honda Civic conversion
over 100 miles on a single charge. It had a configuration you
may not see again; a 7' Prestolite motor and Russco controller
with 16x6 volt and 8x12 volt deep cycle lead acid batteries. The
6.3 mile course was set up on the streets of Santa Clara California.
Bill went 16 laps at an average speed of 25 mph and top speed
of 35 mph. We are honored to have him join the club this day in
Dec 2007; let the record show that he did it before any of the
other members.

April 28 2006; Charles
Whalen took first place! in the distance competition with his
all electric Rav4 at the Fort Pierce 8th Annual Electric Vehicle
Rally on a nice sunny day. During the 3 hour event Charles drove
from Fort Pierce to Okeechobee and back, a 70 mile trip, twice
for a total of 140 miles on a single charge, using approximately
20kwh at a cost of about $2. His average speed was around 45 mph.
Some specs on his 2002 Toyota RAV4-EV SUV: it has a 27.36 kWh
NiMH battery pack consisting of 24 12V, 95Ah modules, all connected
in series, for a nominal pack voltage of 288V. It has an AC induction
motor and controller /inverter. It's a 67hp motor, rated 50kW
peak, 20kW continuous, and 190nm (140 ft-lbs) of torque.

In 2005 On a nice sunny day in May, Steve Clunn,
Drove 110 miles from Ft Pierce (elevation 5 ft.) to Okeechobee(elevation
29 ft) and back, then back to Ft Pierce and then back to Okeechobee,
he drove up hill twice. In a 1987 Mazda B2000 Pickup with a NetGain
9 inch motor and a Z1K-LV Zilla Controller , 25 deep cycle 6 volt
golf cart batteries with an extra pack of 25 in the bed. He averaged
about 45 mph with a top speed of about 50. The trip used 180 amp
hours, about $2 worth of electricity.
Steve is the President of Grassroots Electric Vehicles the founder
of the 100 mile on a charge club.
